On December 1, 2024, the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Soria offered the community an important presentation on breast cancer, led by the gynecologist Dr. José Gregorio Loaiza. In addition, on November 30, our church was the scene of a moving and educational day organized by Women's Ministries—an event commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Gender-based Violence.
Breast Cancer
Talking about breast cancer saves lives, educates, and strengthens communities. Ongoing conversation is critical to reducing the impact of this disease and improving the quality of life for millions of people. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide, accounting for about 25% of all female cancers. Although treatable, it remains one of the leading causes of cancer deaths in women, especially in resource-limited countries where early detection is not as accessible. When detected in early stages, 5-year survival rates are over 90%. Awareness campaigns encourage self-examination, regular check-ups, and mammograms, key tools for identifying cancer before it spreads.
Violence Against Women
More than 80 people participated in the activity, both children and adults, collaborating in a morning sermon entitled: “Go find my sheep.” This inspiring message called for reflection on the commitment and responsibility of each individual to support those who suffer violence, highlighting the importance of empathy and community action.
The day, at the church in Soria, was received with great acceptance, and attendees highlighted the importance of organizing activities, such as these to raise awareness in society and provide educational resources. The Seventh-day Adventist church reaffirmed its commitment to be a safe, inclusive, and proactive space in the fight against gender-based violence.
With this initiative, Women's Ministries and the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Soria demonstrated that the union of faith, education, and action can be key to generating positive and meaningful change in the community.
Women's Ministries not only promotes this type of initiative but also actively supports and collaborates with the different ministries of the church, working with them to strengthen families and the community as a whole.
