“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud . . . it always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres” (1 Corinthians 13:4, 7). Though not specific to women, this passage encapsulates the qualities of love that are often exemplified in the lives and actions of women, underscoring their capacity for deep, unconditional love.

The International Women's Day of Prayer provides an opportunity for women pray for one another. Although the essential purpose of the day is for prayer, the day can also provide women with an opportunity to strengthen their ties with other Christian women as they learn about each other and pray together. Prayers for women everywhere create a spiritual network of empathy and understanding between Adventist women. It is a time to reunite with God and one another to strengthen spiritual bonds. Thousands of women (and men) gather to pray on this day.

The International Women’s Day of Prayer was celebrated in a variety of ways: fasting and prayer, consecration services, women preaching the sermons for church services, and other special programs. Some churches distributed roses, had fellowship lunch, old-age/nursing home visitation, literature distribution, hospital visitation, church member visitation, and prayers for the sick.

A resource manual, with ideas and a planning guide helped make this a life-changing day for women. The women participated with zeal and enthusiasm. Almost all of the women presented one part of the program. They followed a dress code. Group prayers were offered. Women were honored. A special lunch was arranged for the members. Women were honored with flowers and gifts.
